The 28th edition of Iran Handmade Carpet Exhibition will open its doors to the public at the Tehran International Permanent Fairgrounds from August 25 to 31.
Known as one of the world’s most important and biggest events in the art and industry of handmade carpets, the event will host a score of Iranian and foreign companies active in various parts of the industry, Mehr News Agency reported.
As the sponsor and organizer of this event, the Iran National Carpet Center will provide special facilities and options for foreign businessmen in the field.
A number of business and trade delegations from various countries are expected to visit the exhibition and hold trade talks with Iranian producers and exporters of handwoven carpets.
The event attracts as many as 4,000 visitors each year. The previous edition of the exhibition hosted over 670 producers, export companies and manufacturing units across the country.
Handmade Persian carpets, besides having an excellent position in art and culture, are considered a luxury commodity that has adorned many palaces, museums and private houses around the world.

An Iraqi cultural delegation from Iraq’s Basrah Province, comprising of artists in music, theater and film, arrived in Arvand Free Trade Zone, Khuzestan Province on Tuesday.
The director general of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Arvand Free Trade Zone, Homayoon Qanevati, said to IRNA that the artists were to perform cultural and artistic programs in the cities of Abadan and Khoramshahr.
The Basrah Theater Group will perform today and the Iraqi music band will stage their programs tomorrow in the Persian Gulf Hall of Khorramshahr.
Referring to the existing grounds for the exchange of cultural ties between Basrah Province and Arvand Free Trade Zone, Qanevati said that six Arabic short films are set to be screened on Thursday and Friday at Abadan’s Mehr Cinema and Khoramshahr’s Shahid Fahmideh Cultural Art Center.
Recently, Basrah Province and the Arvand Free Trade Zone have agreed to hold joint cultural ceremonies in Iran and Iraq.

 

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports in Greece announced the discovery of two intact chamber tombs dating from 1,400 to 1,200 BCE, which have been unearthed near the southern town of Nemea, at a site already known for its cluster of tombs, most of which had been looted before their discovery.
The new findings appear to provide real evidence of not only what the burial places from the ancient era looked like, but offer the chance to examine human remains from the Mycenaean epoch, greekcitytimes.com reported.
According to the statement by the ministry, the newly found tombs include two perfectly preserved burials and bones that can be attributed to 14 individuals whose remains had been from other tombs and placed in the freshly-undug ones. The burial places also included a whole treasure house of ancient jewelry.
Excavation at the Aidonia burial site began in the late 1970s after the site
containing tombs from 1700-1100 BCE had already been extensively looted, probably in 1976-77. Findings included a trove of ancient jewelry. Several items of jewelry that appeared in a 1993 auction in New York turned out to be from the same site and were subsequently returned to Greece.
In 2007, one of the first tombs of the same age, believed to be over 3,000 years old, was spotted in western Greece, as road maintenance workers were building a highway near the historic city of Agrinio.
 

Salento International Film Festival in Italy has set to focus on Iranian cinema and art.
According to the official website of the event “…Iran is normally presented through false images – perhaps cinema would be a more accurate medium to learn about deeper levels of society, the moral values and other identity factors.’
According to ifilmtv.com, the event has adopted a special section titled, ‘Focus on Iran,’ to show four Iranian shorts, namely, ‘Endless,’ by Maryam Zahirimehr, ‘He Went…,’ by Mehdi Esmaeili, ‘Dance of Life,’ by Peyman Zandi, and ‘Beloved,’ directed by Yaser Talebi.
A photo exhibition will also run during the event that will portray images captured by Mohammad-Reza Domiri-Ganji.

Cinema – the seventh art – is perhaps the most vocal form of art that can act as a directing guide to help its viewers through passageways to introduce a country in a nutshell.
The 16th edition of the Italian festival is slated for September 4-8.





 

A Sunshine Coast Queensland artist created the smallest oil painting in the world, and it has just been hung in a hinterland art gallery in Australia.
Painted on the end of a matchstick, the tiny picture of Dame Edna Everage has been recognized by ‘The Guinness Book of World Records,’ weeklytimesnow.com.au reported.
And you can view it at Montville Art Gallery, owned by the artist Wayne Malkin.
“The painting has been described by ‘The Guinness Book of World Records’ as ‘truly amazing,’ however, they don’t publish size records for handmade works of art,” Malkin said.
Malkin has been painting for 33 years but this 2.3mm by 2.3mm work is his first brush with puny pictures.
Inspiration struck when he was scrolling social media and saw that a Turkish artist held the record for the smallest painting.
“I saw the measurements and thought, that’s ridiculous, I can do better than that,” Malkin said.
“I decided on the head of a matchstick because it’s a measurement a lot of people can imagine. It’s also the same size as the letter U on an Australian 20-cent coin, so anyone can pull out a coin for size comparison.”
Taking two months to complete, the painting was produced by hand in traditional oil paint, using single bristles, pin points and single bamboo fibers.
